Our five top tips
At The Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic, we set our patients up for success by educating and equipping them to care for their braces. We are also always available to answer any questions you may have about brace care. Here are our five top tips on caring for your braces:
1. Clean your braces after every meal
We outline some key brushing techniques on our looking after your teeth page. A rigorous oral hygiene routine can help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, discoloration, and other future issues that may occur otherwise.
2. Be careful what you eat
During treatment, there are some foods it's important to avoid - or to eat with care - so they don't damage your braces. Find out more about these foods on our eating with braces page.
3. Use dental wax
When wearing braces, sometimes an archwire or bracket will rub the inside of your cheek and cause irritation. To help with this, we will provide you with dental wax which can be placed over the part of your appliance that is causing discomfort.
4. Protect your braces
If you participate in activities that could cause injury to your mouth, such as contact sports, we recommend you wear a mouthguard to protect your braces and prevent oral injuries.
5. If there is a problem, contact us
If your braces or aligners break or are damaged, it's very important that you don't try and fix the appliance yourself. Contact us immediately to book an emergency appointment so we can assess and fix the problem.

Invisalign® has changed how we treat crooked or misaligned teeth here at the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic in Norwest. This orthodontic method uses clear plastic aligners to move teeth into position. What's more, Dr Bachmayer has been recognised for his specialties in Invisalign® treatment and has been awarded Invisalign® Diamond Provider status.

What is Invisalign® treatment?
Invisalign® treatment uses a series of medical-grade plastic clear “aligners” that are designed specifically for your teeth to move them into alignment. The process begins by taking a digital image of your teeth. This digital image wil be used to plan your treatment from start to finish.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?
Invisalign® treatment starts to straighten your teeth faster than you may think. The aligners are normally changed every two weeks, aligning your teeth step by step, until you reach the desired outcome. To help streamline the process and ensure optimal convenience Dr Bachmayer can provide you with a few sets of aligners at a time, meaning you only need to visit us around every three months rather than every two weeks.

Crowding
Crowding is the term for when there is not enough space in your mouth for all of your teeth. This can cause teeth to overlap and grow crooked. Crowding may affect the way you chew and therefore, digest your food.
Spacing
The opposite of crowding, spacing is when there is too much space in your mouth for all of your teeth. This can cause big gaps between teeth, where food may lodge. Another problem that can occur from spacing is infected and inflamed gums.
Overbite
Overbite is a term used to describe when the upper jaw is sitting out past the lower jaw when you bite down. As orthodontists, our focus isn't just on teeth, but on aligning your jaws to ensure you have a correct bite as well.
Underbite
The opposite of an overbite, an underbite is when the lower jaw sits out past the upper jaw when you bite down. The misalignment of the jaw can cause chewing and biting difficulties, speech issues, and jaw pain, so it is important to treat these issues.
Open bite
Another common bite problem is when your upper and lower jaws don't meet when you bite. This can cause a big gap between your teeth and can affect the appearance of your smile. Fortunately, orthodontic appliances can fix these types of bite issues.

Dr David Bachmayer
Orthodontic Specialist
Dr David Bachmayer graduated as a dentist from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1979 (cum laude). He practiced General Dentistry for three years prior to accepting an offer to study orthodontics. In 1985, he graduated as an orthodontist from the University of Toronto, Canada, where he received a Diploma in Orthodontics and a Master of Science. David conducted research on children born with Cleft Lip and Palate at the Hospital for Sick Children and was given a special award of Merit for this research by the American Association of Orthodontists.
Since arriving in Australia in 1986, David has maintained a private practice in orthodontics in Norwest. He has been a tutor in orthodontics at the University of Sydney and has also been a visiting Dental Officer at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
David has a special interest in clear aligner orthodontics and when not straightening teeth, can be found paddling his surfski on Sydney Harbour.

Invisalign® treatment is an orthodontic treatment method that provides many of our patients with an alternative to traditional braces. Invisalign® treatment uses a series of clear, removable aligners that have been custom made to your teeth. Generally you change the set of aligners you've been wearing once a week and over time your teeth move into their desired position.
We have used Invisalign® treatment in our practice since 2000. Our Blue Diamond Invisalign® status is in recognition of our experience using these aligners. The aligners are suitable for children, teens and adults, and in each case they’re comfortable to wear because they’re custom made to the shape of your teeth and jaws.
